 My visit in High Hallack.
by Angela Cole

I was invited to visit Andre Norton on May 3, 2003.  My name is Angela.  I am not anyone important in the field of writing, unless you count fans as important.  I am just a devoted admirer of Andre Norton's written word, and will remain so forever...

Ms. Norton was in high spirits when we met and kindly obliged my request to have a picture taken together.  I will cherish that moment for the rest of my life!   Later in the day, I was given the added delight of viewing the contents of the High Hallack library.  The following are a few of the views I was able to catch, in spite of my digital camera.

I would like to take a moment to express my appreciation of Irene's friendship, without whom, none of this would have been possible.  Also, I wish to thank Greg, who kindly volunteered to post my pictures.  And, last but certainly not least, my deepest thanks to Andre Norton, herself, who took time out of her busy schedule to welcome me into her hearth and home...and library...what's that old saying...books, books, everywhere and not enough time to read...or something like that...

First view of the library

#1  -   I believe this is the view as you first enter the library.  To the right would be picture #2, if you look at the little table in front of the last bookcase, directly opposite, is picture #3 the "broom closet".

Work area

#2  -  My personal favorite, because of the sword.  This view depicts a little work area, centrally located, with the rear of the library beyond...

Broom closet

#3  -  I call it the "broom closet".  I just love the hand-made brooms above the alcove entry.  The display to the right resembles a ship's bow and showcases some lovely little figures.  I could have spent days looking at everything, instead made due with a mere few hours...

How immense is the Library

#4  -  This view hints at the immensity of the High Hallack library. There are wonderful pieces of art hidden throughout...

It is not possible to visit with Ms. Norton without at least one cat getting into the picture.  Momma Cat, as seen here, looking serene, kindly posed, betwixt pettings...
