Head of V'dann (one of a few maidens in a position like this). Known for filling her life with hedonistic pleasures. Acquaintance of Valyn. She gave him, Shana, Mero and Keman a temporary shelter, when they were pursued by Lord Dyran. She wanted to make Mero her personal wizard by bespelling him. Her plan, however, failed, mostly due to an attack on Mero by one of her favourite male slaves, Laras. Clan crest: a basilisk standing on its hind legs.

One of the most respected elven lords, father of V'Keln Gildor. House crest: winged deer.

Young elf from the city of Anjes; His main task was to take select information and pass it to his father's ally, Lord Alinor. He gave Keman a note about Shana, when the young dragon tried to find her.

Father of Yssandra, Kevan and Shandar. He was not a very powerful mage. His strength and influence came from astute trading, and from rich deposits of copper and silver on his lands.

Mother of Sheyrena an Treves.

Head of the V'jann Clann (one of a few maidens in a position like this). She came to power by defeating the previous head of V'jann in a three day mage-duel.

Guest of Lord Dyran during a gladiator duel. She rejected his courtship. Clan crests: pale green and silver cranes.

Elf; twin brother of V'kass Valyn, son of Lord Dyran and Lady Lyssia. In pursuance of the marriage contract, he was brought up by Lyssia's father - V'Sheyl Edres lord Fortren and became his heir. A year after the escape of Valyn and death of Dyran, in spite of persistent objections of V'kass Treves sur Hernalth, he became the head of the House of Hernalth.
A day after the magnificent ball he organized (the aim of which was to choose an appropriate spouse and in which, due to his high social status, most of the leven lords took part - including V'larn Tylar Treves with his daughter Sheyrena), he became engaged to Katherina an Vittes.

Liege of Lord Dyran, who bred common workers and held humans in such contempt, that he almost hated them. Valyn was fostered with him.

The most powerful and sly of the High Lords. One of those who crossed the gate from Evelon (he did that against his father's will). Famous for the weaponry made in his land. House colours: gold and wine-red. Clan crest: phoenix.

Brother of Lord Dyran. Father of Mero Jenner.

Son of Lord Dyran, who had long been known to be sympathetic to the plight of his father's slaves and bondlings. He gave shelter to and become the closest friend of Mero Jenner, his halfblood cousin, after Mero's mother pleaded with him to do that.

Trade genius but hot-tempered and inclined to indulge that temper. He proposed to Yssandra (in reality to disguised Alara). House-trademark: white and silver.

Elf; head of the House of Treves, father of Sheyrena. He was a strict man who allowed no resistance on behalf of his family, slaves or underlings. His grandfather was a mere pensioner, who increased his wealth due to success in trade. House symbol: moonbird

Head of V'lysle (one of a few maidens in a position like this). Inherited on the death of her brother, and then revealed that it had been she who had masterminded his rise in Council.

Head of V'meyn (one of a few maidens on a position like this). By some suspected of the quiet assassination of the husband she had been sent to wed, as soon as the ink was dry on the marriage vows (nothing could be proved against her).

Due to his quarrel with Lord Jertain, by the ruling of the Council, a duel took place at Lord Dyran's arena. The quarrel involved a disputed trade route and a series of insults traded in Council. House colors: cinnabar and brown.

Alamarana discovered a pleasure gazebo in his rock garden and thought it was charming. She copied it at the entrance to her cave.

Lord Dyran's ally and father-by-marriage. Father of Lady Lyssia. He trained the finest of duelists, gladiators and guards.

Guest of Lord Dyran during a gladiator duel. Straightforward, didn't seem to like Lord Dyran very much. Clan crests: emerald and sapphire dolphins.

Member of the Council. Dyran had eroded his power by planting a rumour with just enough truth to be believed that he was thinking of divorcing his current lady and arranging another marriage.

The Lair of the shaman Reolahaii.

One of the five trade-cities established by the elves. Administered by Lord Ordrevel.

When elves entered this world they learned their halfblood offspring was more powerful that they were and wanted to use them as political tools. The halfbloods have, however, risen up against their masters. This was the cause of the war in which on one side there were the elven lords and on the other - their halfblood children. The elven lords won, but could not find the halfblood's refuge - the Citadel.

The second conflict between the elves, led by Lord Dyran and halfbloods, this time led by Lashana the Elvenbane and aided by the dragons. The halfbloods won when Valyn killed his father - Lord Dyran - in a suicidal mission.

It was a common name for halfbloods borned of mixed elven-human parentage and endowed with strong magical abilities. Those abilities, it should be noted, widely exceeded those of either parent.

Dragon from Alamarana's lair. She described him as: "as sour in nature as an unripe medlar". He carried grudges for decades.

Alamarana, after shifting her shape, pretended to be her, to set Lord Rathekrel and Lord Myen at variance.
